Our mission is to inspire the joy of literacy by ensuring access to diverse books, fostering connections with reading role models, and engaging families in meaningful literacy experiences.
Since 2016
InspireLit has shared over 136,000 books across Alexandria through curated collections of new and gently used books donated by the community.
Our Vision
Our vision is to cultivate a vibrant literacy community in Alexandria where every child has the opportunity to thrive through equitable access to enriching reading materials and the joy of shared stories.
Through our initiatives, we strive to provide a diverse selection of books that cater to all ages, interests, and cultural backgrounds to underserved communities. We work closely with local schools, organizations, and volunteers to collect and distribute books throughout the year.
At Inspire Lit, we are committed to promoting equity by breaking down barriers to access high-quality reading materials. We believe every child in Alexandria should have the opportunity to have culturally inclusive, accessible, and high-interest books at school and at home, regardless of their economic status.
Our Model
The InspireLit model combines providing book access and choice, collaborating with reading role models, and promoting literacy through family outreach to inspire the joy of literacy across Alexandria.
